The Power of Visibility: One Word that Will Change Your Life

The Power of One Word: Making Your Word Visible

The concept of choosing one word as a guiding principle is transformative. This intentional practice, introduced to me by Coach Billie C., encourages focus on spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, and relational growth. By making your word visible, you reinforce its influence and create a constant reminder of your journey.

Why Visibility Matters

The adages “use it or lose it” and “seeing is believing” aptly describe the importance of making your one word visible. I’ve asked friends later in the year about their one word and they hesitated searching to find the word. In order to live out our word, we have to know. As we see our one word more frequently, it becomes a constant goal post and reminder.

Visibility transforms your chosen word from an idea to a  motivation. It keeps your focus sharp, fosters accountability, and becomes a reference for reflection and growth.

Creative Ways to Keep Your Word Visible

1. Customized Items

   - In 2014, Coach Billie C. encouraged participants to paint cups with their words. Personalizing items such as mugs or tote bags can make your word a daily reminder.

2. Jewelry and Accessories

   - Engrave your word onto a necklace, bracelet, or keychain. For example, my 2021 word, “praise,” became a pendant that I could wear as a constant source of inspiration.

3. Home Decor

   - Create door signs, wall art, or photo frames showcasing your word. In 2023, I made a hanging door sign for my word “Be,” keeping it prominent in my living space.

4. Journals and Planners

   - Use your one word as the theme for journal covers or goal planners. Incorporate scriptures, images, and related quotes. For instance, my quarterly planners reflect my word’s application in life’s pillars, accompanied by corresponding scriptures.

5. Digital Reminders

   - Set your word as the wallpaper on your phone or computer. This digital approach ensures you see it multiple times throughout the day.

Journal Prompts to Deepen Your Connection to Your One Word:

Please read “ One Word” by Jon Gordon to get a better understanding of the process. However, here are some journal prompts to get you thinking.

1. What word resonates with the growth or change I desire most in this season?

2. How can I make this word visible in my daily life to stay focused on its meaning?

3. In what ways can my one word inspire small, actionable steps toward my goals?
